Formula Vee Round 7 - with Max Hart

I had heard about the Formula Vee Festival being a unique weekend but I wasn't prepared for how great a weekend it was to be! It was great walking through a jammed paddock on Friday, as it had a great buzz running through it.

On Saturday, I had an ok qualifying which meant I would start 9th on the grid for the all-important B/C race. I got a great start and settled into a steady rhythm, conscious that I needed a good result following my difficulties the last time out. I maintained the class lead, and was involved in a great 4 way battle inside the top 10 overall. I crossed the line 1st in my class and I was delighted to get another win under my belt. With the points secured, I enjoyed another great battle in the final later that day.

It was also a great weekend racing alongside my dad, Diarmuid. It was a baptism of fire for him, as he chose the festival weekend as his first time ever racing a Vee. It proved to be a very action packed weekend as the UK Vee’s came over to compete and on Saturday we got an opportunity to watch how they handled the track. Saturday was a great day!

In Sunday’s Racing, I started in 8th in heat 1 and finished 8th. In heat 3 I started 18th and had a very enjoyable climb through the field to finish 8th again. I was very happy to be battling with the more powerful UK Vee’s also, my track knowledge proved useful! The race was red flagged due to an incident on the first lap meant we had to restart. There were quite a lot of incidents in this particular heat, which I was lucky to avoid.

For the final, I got a great start, jumping a couple of places and then having to balance looking in mirrors and challenging in front. Unfortunately I then had some mechanical difficulty which initially slowed the car and then forced me to stop. I’m looking forward to getting back to Kirkistown for the next round in August, where I hope to extend my championship lead a little further. I am ever thankful to my sponsors Selco Hygiene Supplies who continue to support me and make this year possible, and also to Leastone Racing for their support over the race weekends.
