Monoposto - Snetterton 300 - July 25/26th

The Monoposto Championship made its annual visit to the fast and technical Snetterton 300 circuit over the weekend, with Morgan McCourt and the Selco Hygiene Leastone 1000 looking to battle for M1000 podiums around the former WW2 air base. Rather than their traditional 2 grids, the entire Monoposto field was combined for the MSVR USA event which saw 31 cars hit the track for qualifying. Morgan put track knowledge to good use, lining up 15^th overall and 4^th of the M1000 runners for the first of the weekends 3 races.

Race 1

Saturday afternoon's opening race was run in warm, dry conditions and Morgan made a solid getaway. He was over cautious in the opening laps, on account of multi class battles around him but as he settled into the midfield battle, he established himself in the fight for M1000 honours while keeping pace with several more powerful cars.

As he picked his way through the other classes, the M1000 field was somewhat strung out, so once Morgan got some clear air, he focused on consistency on the run to the flag. With that, he was able to bring his Leastone home 13th overall, while securing the final step of the M1000 podium.

Race 2

Sunday morning's race saw McCourt line up 11th overall and once again surrounded by M1000 rivals. Under overcast but dry skies, Morgan delivered one of his most consistent performances of the season. Having learned some lessons from his Race 1 start, while still a bit tentative in the opening laps, he managed to place his Leastone 1000 on the fringes of the overall top 10 when things settled down.

The race then developed into a relatively close contest within M1000, with Morgan keeping in touch with Charlie Locker and Wayne Pearson through the opening phase of the race. He dropped back from mounting a challenge to second place Locker and then had his mirrors full of Pearson for the races conclusion.

Morgan held on to 3^rd place for his second podium of the weekend, taking the flag just over a second ahead of Wayne and 11^th overall.

Race 3

The final race of the weekend brought bright conditions, with Morgan starting 13th overall. An early Safety Car period stymied any hope for forward progress and while the field were only under yellow for 2 laps, a significant amount of the race clock had been eaten up, given the length of the lap.

Once the race got back underway, Morgan found himself caught out on cold tyres at the ultra-fast Coram corner, resulting in a high-speed spin across the grass and dropping him down the field. With only a couple of laps remaining, there wasn’t much chance for recovery but he was still able to secure another M1000 podium, due to some bad fortune for his fellow competitors.

Despite the eventful end to the weekend, Morgan left Norfolk extremely happy with his points (and trophy) haul for the weekend. Consistency proved to be the key, with Morgan bringing the car home in every race while steadily improving his pace and enjoying battles not just with his M1000 competitors, but across multiple classes.

His attention now shifts to Donington Park on 29/30^th of August, where he will look to build on this momentum and continue his consecutive run of podiums.
