The Leastone team returned to Mondello Park last weekend with the Formula BOSS series, where 2024 BOSS3 champion Mark Reade and teammate Morgan McCourt fielded their Selco Hygiene Leastone 1000s. Reade was not happy in qualifying, chasing a niggling handling problem but he lined up on the 4th row, together with Morgan.

Damp conditions met the field for race 1 but the entire grid opted for slicks as the skies were brightening. Both Leastones knew they needed to make hay while the conditions were at their worst and they made a good jump at the start to slot into 4th and 6th at the end of the first tour.

As the track continued to dry, they struggled to keep pace with the more powerful BOSS machines but both Mark and Morgan were enjoying the challenge. They crossed the line 4th and 6th, in what turned out to be a lonely run to the flag but secured a BOSS3 1-2 in the process.

Race 2 saw fully dry conditions from the off, so opportunities to challenge the bigger BOSS machines were going to be reduced. Even so, both Reade and McCourt took most advantage at the start, jumping up to 6th and 7th. Mark gave chase to one of the F3’s, keeping within a second for the opening few laps but never quite close enough to commit to a move.

He would drop back a little more by the mid-way point of the race but was still within 2 seconds when he suffered a puncture on lap 9, which unfortunately sent him to the pits and into requirement. This left Morgan, who had been watching this chase from a distance, to pick up the pieces and take BOSS3 honours at the flag.

The BOSS crew is now anticipating rounds 6 and 7 on July 6th, when the series will return to Mondello. This time, it will be on the highly technical international layout, where the grid is eager to stretch their legs some more.
