Morgan McCourt was back on track with the Monoposto Racing Club last weekend, this time on the fabulous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in Northamptonshire. His weekend got off to a challenging start during testing, where an incident in the final session of the day caused significant damage to his regular Leastone 1000, such that the team had to switch to the spare car for the race weekend proper.
Given that qualifying was essentially a shakedown in this new-to-him car, Morgan did well to log a time good enough for 9th in the MonoMoto 1000 class.
This is one event where Monoposto combine all their classes, which results in a mammoth 40-car field barrelling down into Copse on the opening lap. Historically, there have been some major incidents during the frantic opening laps, but the entire field navigated their way without problem during Race 1 on Saturday.
With Morgan now settled in his new mount, he looked to make progress forward and picked up a number of places in the opening half of the race. He was embroiled in multiple-car battles as he moved up the leaderboard and was thoroughly enjoying the multi-class battles that are common to Monoposto. From 31st overall, he gained 10 places during the 20-minute race to come home 21st and 6th in class.

He was looking to build on that momentum in the second of the weekend's races, which took place early on Sunday morning. However, Lady Luck had other ideas as his Leastone ground to a halt on the opening lap, with its GSXR1000 dead stick. The team would later cite a failed crankshaft sensor as the culprit.
Despite opening the weekend with a solid result, the team faced a long journey home following Race 2’s mechanical failure. Morgan will now look towards Rounds 6 and 7 on June 13th, which sees the series move from the F1-tailored wide expanse of Silverstone to the tree-lined confines of Oulton Park, a true driver's circuit.
